The connectivity issues experienced yesterday have been resolved. We would like to share some details about the event. Some users’ connectivity to Amazon EC2, our hosting provider, was affected by issues outside of the Amazon EC2 network. Amazon EC2 peers with multiple Internet providers to provide resilient connectivity to the Internet. When they became aware of the connectivity issues, they adjusted their Internet routing preferences to provide reliable connectivity to as much of the Internet as possible.  During this time some of our customers may have experienced issues accessing our portal for part of the morning yesterday (Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2009).  Amazon resolved all of their connectivity issues by 2:20 PM PDT.  Our customers reported their issues resolved by late morning.

This is a related informational message posted by Amazon, our hosting provider:

“…We are working with major Internet transit providers to resolve connectivity issues which are being caused by routing issues in the Internet backbone. To work around these issues, we have been shifting traffic among our Internet providers. In some cases, these issues are the result of routing preferences on the client’s end. If you are still experiencing packet-loss, please report an issue and include a traceroute as this will better help us and the major internet transit providers we’re working with to diagnose any remaining issues.”
